18 -- Sponsors Race Review |
|
Sunday,
July 18th was the second day of racing for the Toronto Kart Club’s
double header weekend.
We ran our regular club points events, along with a Sponsor’s race over
the lunch hour.
We
had a good showing of sponsors in attendance, some of which are parents of
karters with the club, or are karters that have continued to support the club
after moving on.
Others are businesses in the community who understand the value of what our club
is all about. All our sponsors are very appreciated by the
Toronto Kart Club Board and its members, and allowing the sponsors to come out
for a complimentary race event is the least we can do to thank them for their
support.
The
sponsor race was exciting to watch from the beginning of the 15 laps , with
several position battles happening throughout the race.
John Nye and Steve Walker battled for first place.
James Price, Charles Jacobs, and Scott Walker put on a show for the
spectators, with any one of them waiting up for each other to race together.
Unfortunately Charles had mechanical issues, then the other two became
serious about placing. This again gave the spectators something to watch.
In the end it was John Nye who took the checkered flag, followed by Steve
Walker representing Boss Steel in second place, and Derek Hobbs of Ready Honda
taking the third position on the podium. Complete
results are posted on the Results page.
Many thanks to the Centennial Park crew for providing the karts for our Sponsors
and Media exhibition races.

| JULY
17 -- Media Race Review |
|
The Toronto Kart Club held their sixth race for the 2010
season this Saturday, July 17th. The
weather was hot and so was the racing.
Along with our club classes we held a Media Race.
We had Hugh Burrill, Peter Dworschak and Doug Barker from
City TV, Jim Kenzie from the Toronto Star, Jeff Hayward from Toronto Community
News, John Penny of MarIndustrial, Nick and Chris Jameson of Level Ten
Communications as participants. The
Media representatives were given training, then had six minutes practice to get
a feel for the track and arrive & drive karts that were supplied by
Centennial Park Indy, before they had their race.
The green was dropped and the pole sitters froze only to allow the back
of the pack to race around them and roar off to start the race.
Jim Kenzie took the lead and never looked back, the rest of the field
jockeyed for positions throughout the race.
Unfortunately for Hugh Burrill, on the 10th lap he was out due
to a mechanical failure. The
checkered flag flew after 20 laps for Jim Kenzie followed by Nick Jameson, Peter
Dworschak, Chris Jameson, and Doug Barker to finish out the top five.
Toronto Kart Club would like to thank all the media representatives for
participating, and providing an exciting race! We are already looking
forward to organizing a similar event in the near future.

| Race #4 REPORT |
June 13, 2010
|
After a longer than expected wait, Toronto Kart Club was finally able to
inaugurate their new home track at Centennial Park in the west end of Toronto,
on Saturday June 5, 2010. The weather also cooperatored and provided sunny
skies that allowed the racers to put on a good show.
Extra practice time was given to each class, so that all participants could
become accustomed to the challenging course. The tight left turns, with a
sweeping bank just before the raised bridge, gave racers a new perspective on
set up and gearing.
With pre-finals set at 15 laps and the final heats at 20 laps, there was no
shortage of action and fequent passing. The Masters class race winner, and
the first winner of the new track, was Paul Dragonac, with John Brough and
Stefano Radaelli taking the 2nd and 3rd place positions on the
podium. Other class winners included: Eric Hovesen in
Novice, Kailey Steinhausen in Subaru Novice, Austin Rubio in Junior Light, and
Scott Walker in Subaru Senior.
It was a fun day for all participants and spectators. Many thanks to all
the people who contributed their time and effort to make this new facility a
reality.

Our next scheduled race is Saturday June 19 at Centennial Park.

| SUBARU
Senior Invitational -- Race Report |
August 27, 2009
|
The Toronto Kart Club held Race #9 at Sutton this past weekend. On the
race schedule was the Subaru Senior Invitational. With ten karts wanting
to test out the fast KX21 engine, the field had some formidable
competition. With a race-heat qualifying format giving racers more
exciting track time, Scott Walker took the pole position, with A.J. Emms beside
him on the front row. When we announced the finals were going to be 25
laps, the drivers were ecstatic. Walker was slow off the start, and gave
Emms and Mike Rogers a good lead. As the laps went by, the number swapping
was becoming the order of the day. On lap 22, Emms went off on corner one
with a broken hub, leaving the top three to settle the score. At the
checkered flag, it was Scott Walker, followed by Mike Rogers and Matthew
Radaelli. The top four all had laptimes within two tenths the entire race.
We would like to thank all participants that came out for the race, and Mar
Industrial for supporting the Subaru Class. As many times before, the
ambulance services would not be required, as a tribute to our great
racers. We would also like to send out the TKC's appreciation to our many
volunteers for making our racers the best club races can be.
Photos of the entire day are posted on our Photo
Page.

| HERSHEY
CENTRE GRAND PRIX -- Wrap Up Report |
August 13, 2009
|
As expected, the 4th Annual Hershey Centre Grand Prix was a wonderful
success. Although the weather was not the most cooperative, the weekend
was filled with competitive racing and high spirits. The races were
action-packed and filled with excitement, and safe driving was a high priority,
as the paramedics' services were not required once throughout the entire
weekend.
All of the drivers should be praised for their amazing work over the
weekend. It seemed like there were no drivers giving less than a hundred percent
of their effort on the track. Congratulations
are due to the class winners: Lukas
Haas (Subaru Novice), Joshua Conquer (Novice), Jeremy Steinhausen (Subaru
Junior), Matthew Peralto (Jr. Light), Marcus Balkisoon (Jr. Heavy), Matthew
Radaelli (Sr. Honda), Jon Miller (Sr. Light), A.J. Emms (Sr. Heavy) and Shawn
Gardner (Masters).
Special thanks go out to all of the Toronto Kart Club and Kawartha Durham Kart Club
volunteers. Whether it was setting
up or taking down the track, organizing the event or working the corners,
without your help, this event would never have run as smoothly as it did. We must also extend our greatest gratitude to our event sponsors:
MarIndustrial, Ready Honda of Mississauga, Princess Auto of Mississauga, Honda
Canada, Concord Hardware, Boss Steel and Wurth Canada. With your help, we were able
to set up a great track, an exciting weekend
and had wonderful prizes to give out.
We understand that many more drivers wanted to attend, had it not been for the
ASN Nationals. It was never our intent to conflict with any other
event. The Hershey Centre Grand Prix date was confirmed and announced last
winter, and we were led to believe at that time that the Nationals would be in
western Canada this year, which we felt would not affect the majority of
Southern Ontario club level racers. However, a new format of separate
western and eastern Canadian National Qualifiers has now been put into
place. Unfortunately it was impossible to change the date of the Hershey
Grand Prix, as several months of planning and investment had already been
done. With that being said, plans are already underway for next year's
event, which promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Photos
of the event have been posted on our website, thanks to our talented
photographer Jim McGlade. The event also received local media coverage,
and we have posted the links below. Several drivers were also interviewed
by CityNews, and we will post the video links when they become available.

Due to renovations being done at our Spec Fuel Station, TKC has had to

Effective immediately (Race

just south of Sutton, at 24428 Highway #48.
To avoid any complications, we suggest that participants flush their fuel tanks
and lines thoroughly, prior to the next event.

events held at other locations will have different spec fuel, to be announced

| Race #1,
Report |
May 6, 2009
|
The Toronto
Kart Club held its first race of the 2009 season on Saturday May 2, and our
members were eager to shake off the winter blahs. Many thanks to the Nye
Family for sponsoring our season opener.
We hit the track at 9 o'clock with a full 4-stroke dance card. The
best race of the day was our Junior Heavy class, with Julius Makos taking the
fast qualifier pin, and setting up for a great final event. With the drop
of the green flag, it was Julius and Bryson Schutte breaking away from the
pack. Bryson led for the first half of the race, but a great pass on the
grid corner gave Julius the lead, and also the win, leading Bryson over the
finish line by only .774.
Another first for TKC was the Subaru KX21 motor debut -- the first competitive
running in Canada. The Subaru's and Honda's ran together on the track,
which made for an exciting race. Scott Walker took the fast qualifier pin,
but it was Phil Wang brining home the first place hardware in the final
heat.
We would like to thank all the racers who came out to support TKC, as well as
all of our fantastic volunteers. It is always a great race day when the
ambulance sits idle.
We look forward to our next race on Saturday May 9, at the Sutton Track.
See our schedule page for the daily itinerary,
track configuration and race order.

Test Day and Open Practice |
April 13, 2009
|
This
Saturday April 18 will be the TKC Rookie Training day, being held at the 3-S Go
Kart facility in Sutton (host club is Simcoe Kart Club). Click HERE for the schedule for
the day.
Immediately following the Rookie training session, TKC will be holding the
SUBARU test drive day. This will be a great opportunity to test drive the
new Senior Subaru motor, the KX21, which will be on display and mounted on a
senior kart, and available for test drives. This motor is
putting out 10.5 horsepower and 14 foot pounds of torque, as per a Land &
Sea dyno.
We will also have on hand the Junior and Novice Subaru motors, which will be available to mount on your own kart
and take for a spin around the track during the open practice session.
Open practice runs from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. The cost will be $25 per person,
payable to 3-S Go Karts.
Toronto Kart Club will be racing these engines in all of its 2009 points races
(10 events in total).
Come on out, and try for yourself the new, cost effective and fair form of kart
racing.
|
| 2-stroke
classes for 2009 |
March 31, 2009
|
The Toronto
Kart Club would like to extend an invitation to all 2-cycle drivers who hold
a 2009 ASN-affiliated club karting license, who wish to have additional racing
excitement, to join TKC at any of our regularly scheduled club races. This
would include classes such as Rotax, Mini-Max, Micro-Max, F1-K, and Shifter, and
any other classes that wish to organize themselves and race at one or more TKC
events.
Please check our schedule, as we race mostly Saturdays at Sutton in 2009. We
only ask that there is a minimum of 6 racers in each group, in order to run a
2-cycle class. These classes will be for demonstration only,
and will not collect points or be part of our championship. Podium
pictures will be taken for the top 5 finishers with trophies for photo purposes
only.
We recognize the existence and the need for 2-cycle classes to have a forum in
which they can have a place to race just for fun, and/or to get some extra seat
time prior to a regional event. If you have a 2-cycle group of 6 or more,
and would like to participate in any TKC race, please advise TKC no later than
48 hours prior to any regularly scheduled event.

| Rookie
Training Day -- Details |
March 15, 2009
|
There has been a
change in format this year for our Rookie Training. Rather than holding
the in-class and on-track training/testing on separate dates, the training will
be combined and held on one day. This year the training will be conducted
at the 3-S track in Sutton, on Saturday April 18, in conjunction with the Simcoe
Kart Club. We feel this is a positive move, as it frees
up an additional weekend for our members and officials, allowing for more family
time.
There
is a fee of $75.00 for the all-day event with lunch included for driver and
mechanic only. The fee covers the cost of insurance and ambulance for the
day.
It all starts at 8:00 a.m., and consists of teaching, on-track training and a
test. Please arrive on time. Participants are also reminded to
check the weather forecast, and dress appropriately for the day.
So bring your thinking caps and karts,
and we will see you there.

| Spec
Tires for 2009 Announced |
March 11, 2009
|
The Toronto
Kart Club has selected MG tires as the spec tire for the 2009 season. To
keep continuity with other clubs and series, we will be running the MG FZ
(yellow) for dry and the MG WZ (white) for rains. These tires can be
purchased directly from 3-S Go Karts at the Sutton track, or at any other dealer
that sells MG kart tires.
Drivers participating in the Subaru series are permitted to use the spec tire
designated by their home club.
To enable our members to use up old tires they may have from the 2008 season,
the club will also be allowing the following tires: For the first two (2)
dry race days MG FZ (yellow) and Vega (blue) will be allowed; as for the rain
tires, they will be MG WZ (white), Dunlop (KT6, KT8, KT10) and Vega (white) for
the 2009 season. This decision to use alternate tires is two fold --
it assists our members in saving money by using up existing tire supplies, and
is also aimed at being environmentally responsible. We trust that our
members will be pleased with this decision.

13 Meeting of the Members |
December 24, 2008
|
On Saturday December 13th, 2008, TKC held a special meeting for the current 2008 members. All
voting members in good standing were sent a notice for this meeting along with the proposed changes of our constitution through first class mail.
The purpose of this meeting was to bring our current members up to speed by providing an overview of some key events during the 2008 season. In addition to the overview, some key proposed amendments to the TKC constitution and By-Laws were voted on. These amendments were adopted by an overwhelming majority of the attending members and are effective immediately. TKC will now have a much
more solid foundation to prepare for the 2009 season and beyond.
We will be announcing a tentative 2009 season schedule very shortly. Stay tuned to the website for all updates.
Have a Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all.

Press Release |
November 17, 2008
|
For
those of you who have been with the Toronto Kart Club over the past several
years, you have had the opportunity of witnessing and experiencing the
excitement and fun of racing at Toronto Kart Club.
The true club atmosphere is where everyone lends a hand when it is needed
regardless of whether it is your competitor, a fellow racer or someone just
getting into the sport. Toronto
Kart Club is a club that does not discriminate regardless of which chassis you
decide to race with or which engine builder you decide to use.
To
some of you, it may have been evident that the relationship between the Toronto
Kart Club and the owners of Goodwood Kartways was strained at times during the
2008 season. This is the result of
Goodwood Kartways' numerous attempts in dictating the directions of the Toronto
Kart Club that was not in the best interest of its members and the principles in
which the Toronto Kart Club was created. The
level of control by Goodwood Kartways even extends to their belief of ownership,
who can sit on the board, and whom TKC can have as sponsors.
It
has been expressed by Goodwood Kartways that "After
exhausting its options within a rental club situation", they made their
decision even though the Toronto Kart Club was never approached or given an
opportunity to discuss any options for 2009.
The board of directors of Toronto Kart Club, along with the
members, are shocked and disappointed with the news that Goodwood Kartways has
established its own club, and "Gone will be the Toronto Kart Club".
Nobody on the board of TKC was consulted about this, and this was done while the
TKC board was busy making plans for their 2008 Awards Banquet, and also making
preliminary plans for the 2009 season, which included racing at Goodwood.
It will now be necessary to evaluate other options available to the
Toronto Kart Club to solidify the 2009 season.
Clearly this decision, made
public today by Goodwood Kartways, had already been decided by the owners of
Goodwood Kartways months before, as something of this magnitude takes a
significant amount of time to solidify. One
would wonder if all the hard work done by the board of directors throughout the
2008 season to maintain a relationship with Goodwood Kartways has been in vain.
It should be publicly noted
that Toronto Kart Club has a signed contract with Goodwood Kartways, which is
valid up to and including the 2012 racing season. Goodwood has broken
various aspects of this contract over the past year, and has now completely
abandoned the entire agreement, without the consent of Toronto Kart Club.
Despite
all of this, Toronto Kart Club will continue to provide the same level of
commitment and service to our members in addition to being Toronto's "Fun
Place to Race". Please stay
tuned for further updates by visiting our website.

| Online Fraud Warning
|
August, 2008
|
In
an effort to keep our members, and all club members, safe from potential danger,
we want everybody to be aware that there are many crooks/scammers who have been
targeting the karting community via local club websites and advertisements for
buying and selling used karts.
For information on how to avoid a scam when buying or selling used karting
equipment, please click on this link.
Additionally, there have been major
thefts reported recently. Ensure that your equipment is stored securely,
record all serial numbers, and take photos of all your equipment. If your
chassis does not have a serial number, we recommend using an engraver to etch a
unique id on an inconspicuous area of the chassis.
